INDIANAPOLIS -- Barry University men's golf team shot 298 in the rain-delayed opening round of the Brickyard Crossing Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
The Buccaneers are tied for seventh, eight strokes behind co-leaders West Florida and Central Oklahoma. Tiffin (Ohio) is third at 293 in the 13-team field.
Play was suspended Monday when a lightning storm passed over the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course's par-72, 7,180-yard layout. Holes 7-10 are embedded inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's oval track.
Barry newcomer Mike Anderson shot even par, and is tied for fourth with seven others. Central Oklahoma's Russ Purser shot 3-under 69. Missouri-St. Louis' Anthony Cope and West Florida's Juan Miguel Heredia are tied for second at 1-under 71.
Buccaneers senior Berry Jole is tied for 12th after shooting 73. Junior Nico Cavero shot 76, and is tied for 36th. Sophomore Mario Beltran and Eirik Groenhaug are tied for 43rd after shooting 77s.
Anderson leads the 74-player field with seven birdies. Cavero and Groenhaug each had 12 pars, and Jole 11. Missouri-St. Louis' Markus Lindberg and Jackson Wright lead that category with 15 apiece.
The tournament, which Barry has won the past two seasons, has been cut to 36 holes. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.
