PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Barry University’s No. 1-ranked men’s golf team has a 13-stroke lead after two rounds of the Guy Harvey Invitational.
The Buccaneers shot 17-under 280-279 – 559 Monday on the par-72, 7,045-yard PGA National Golf Club Champion Course to take the lead after 36 holes in the three-round tournament hosted by Nova Southeastern. Saint Leo is second at 4-under 572, and Nova third at even 576.
In his first tournament of the season, Barry junior Adam Svensson shot 9-under 71-64 – 135 to grab a one-stroke lead in the 95-player, 17-team field. Saint Leo’s Ryan Gendron shot 68-68 – 136, and is second. The two will be paired together in Tuesday’s final round, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. Svensson’s 64 is his second lowest round as a collegian.
Barry’s Mike Anderson is third after shooting 6-under 71-67 – 138 over the first two rounds. He is three strokes ahead of Southeast Oklahoma State’s Sebastian Otoya and Nova Southeastern’s Santiago Gomez, who both shot 3-under 141.
Barry’s Nico Cavero and Mario Beltran are tied for 11th at 1-under 143. Cavero shot 67-76. Beltran shot 71-72. Buccaneers teammate Berry Jole is tied for 40th at 150 after shooting 74-76.
Playing as an individual in his first college event, Barry’s Jose Hernandez shot 75-79 – 154.
