Barry University junior volleyball player Laine Cielena was named to the Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District First Team.
Cielena, a 6-2 middle blocker from Krimuldas Novads, Latvia, carries a 3.97 grade point average in finance. She has been named to Barry University's President's List for a perfect 4.0 GPA in three of her four semesters in Miami Shores. She also was named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in both of her first two years.
This season, Cielena has 117 kills while hitting .261. She is second on the team with 61 blocks, including a team-best 10 solos. She also has 24 digs. Cielena has had double-digit kills in four matches, including a season-high 13 in a win over West Georgia in the South Region Crossover Oct. 18.
Barry hosts Saint Leo 7 p.m. Friday and Florida Southern 4 p.m. Saturday.
