WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (5-2) concluded the Rollins Volleyball Invitational splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. The Buccaneers defeated the St. Mary’s Rattlers (2-4) 30-21, 30-18, 30-19 but fell to the Michigan Tech Wolverines 30-27, 21-30, 32-30, 30-15 to round out tournament play.

Camilla Pagnan finished the day with 34 kills and 19 digs, while Spenser Rigg added 18 kills and 14 digs. Lauren Evans added 35 digs on the day.

Both teams came out sluggish in the opening match. However, despite only eight kills, Barry was able to take advantage of 10 Rattler attack errors and 10 serving/receiving errors to win the first set 30-21. The Buccaneers dominated the next two games winning both 30-18 and 30-19. Maria Romanowski recorded six of Barry’s 15 service aces in the match.

Pagnan hit a .267 clip and led all hitters with 12 kills, while Spenser Rigg added eight in the match. Lauren Evans collected a match-high 17 digs and Romanowski added 28 assists. Samantha Weber hit a blistering .450 and added 11 kills to lead St. Mary’s (Texas). Courtney Matula dished out 22 assists and Stephanie Solano led with 10 digs.

In the tournament finale, the Buccaneers were out of rhythm from opening serve. The Wolverines (2-2) managed to win the first game 30-27 and Barry evened the match at one game apiece with a 30-21 win in the second set. However, after a disappointing 32-30 loss in game three, the Bucs suffered a 30-15 shellacking in the final game and dropped their third match of the season.

Pagnan recorded the double-double, 22 kills and 14 digs to pace the Buccaneers. Rigg added 10 kills and Evans contributed 18 digs. Kali Jeter and Veronica Armstrong both had 12 kills apiece to lead the Wolverines.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8 for their home-opener against Flagler at 2 pm.
