FT MYERS, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (6-10) took on NCAA Division I Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Tuesday night, but came up short fall 3-0 at Alico Arena. The game scores were 30-15, 30-27, and 30-13.
Once a south region competitor, the newly transitioned Division I Eagles (12-1) dominated the first game hitting a blistering .407 clip for the 30-15 win.
After a disappointing performance in the first set, Barry came out of the break and took an 11-8 lead. The Eagles, however, went on a seven point run to regain the lead, 15-11. The Bucs eventually tied the set up at 27 apiece, but FGCU served out the final three points for the win 30-27.
As if things couldn’t get worse for the Buccaneers this season, starting setter Maria Romanowksi went down with an injury in game three. With the loss, things went downhill for the Bucs as they fell 30-13.
Camilla Pagnan was the only Buccaneer to reach double-digit kills finishing with 10. Romanowski handed out 18 assists and Lauren Evans collected 18 digs.
Ana Kokanovic and Roberta Santos recorded a match-high 12 kills, while Santos added a .500 hitting percentage and 20 assists. Brooke Youngquist followed with 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs.
The Buccaneers will return to the Health & Sports Center on Friday for a three-match weekend starting with Florida Tech on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 pm.
