MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Camilla Pagnan recorded 37 kills for the second straight week to help the Barry University volleyball team (7-10, 1-2 SSC) snap a three-match losing streak on Friday night. The Buccaneers earned a 3-1 Sunshine State Conference win over the Florida Tech Panthers at the Health & Sports Center by game scores of 17-30, 30-25, 34-32, and 30-27.
Barry came out flat in the first game and Florida Tech exploited every weakness to start the match. The Buccaneers actually opened with a 2-0 lead, but the Panthers went on a 10-2 scoring run to take the lead and continued to the 30-17 win.
Despite a one-game advantage, the Panthers slipped in the second set and allowed Barry back in the match. Pagan paced the Buccaneers with 15 kills in the second game to even the match at one game apiece.
After battling for a 34-32 win in game three, the Buccaneers used a balanced offensive attack in game four to win 30-27. Pagnan, Romina Powers, and Stefanie Sveiven each recorded seven, six and four kills respectively in the final game to help Barry to their first SSC win of the season.
For the third time this season and second straight week, Pagan recorded 37 kills to lead all attackers. She also added 18 digs for the double-double. Romina Powers posted a career night with a .478 attack percentage and 15 kills. Sveiven added 13 kills, while Caitlin Shawver added 11. Maria Romanowski dished out 67 assists and Lauren Evans added 25 digs.
