Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at AFLAC/Cougar Invite

Final Round
MIDLAND, Ga. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished fifth out of an 18-team field on Tuesday at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational firing three-round score of 886 (+22). The Buccaneers carded scores of 300 in the first and third rounds and a 286 (-2) in round two on the 6,921 yard, par 72 Bull Creek West Course.
 
Nova Southeastern (+5) moved up from second place after the first day to finish as the tournament team winner with a three-round score of 869 (287-291-291), while West Florida (+8) finished three strokes back in second place with a 872 (289-290-293) score. South Carolina-Aiken finished one stroke behind the Argonauts in third place with a three-round score of 876 (+9), while day one leader Valdosta State (+12) fell back three spots to finish fourth with a three-round 876 (291-285-300). Barry rounded out the top five.
 
Chris Carlin (+6) finished T19th with a three-round 222 (76-70-76 to lead the Buccaneers, while Victor Billskoog (+7) finished 26th with a 223 (74-76-73) three-round score. Carlos Velez (75-71-78=224), Guillermo Pumarol (76-75-73=224) and Preston Roberts (75-70-79=224) all finished at eight-over-par and T27th to round out the Buccaneer team score.
 
Clayton State’s Will Wilcox (-9) took home individual medalist honors with a three-round nine-under par score of 207 (71-65-71).
 
The Buccaneers will be back in action Oct 15-16 at the NSU Fall Classic hosted at PGA National in Palm Beach, Fla.
 
First & Second Rounds
MIDLAND, Ga. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished fourth on the first day of the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational firing two-round score of 586 on Monday. After carding a first-round 300 team score, the Buccaneers reared back in round two and fired a 286, the second lowest round in the tournament, on the 6,921 yard, par 72 Bull Creek West Course.
 
Valdosta State (E) is the current team leader with an even-par 576 (291-285). Fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent, Nova Southeastern (+2) finished second with a two-round score of 578 (287-291), while West Florida (+3) finished one stroke back in third place with a 579 (289-290) score. Barry (+10) is fourth and Clayton State (299-289=588) is currently 12 strokes back in fifth place.
 
After finishing the first round at three-over-par (75), Preston Roberts (+1) carded a two-under-par 70 in round two to finish T9th out of 93 individuals with a two-round score of 145 to lead the Buccaneers. Both Carlos Velez (75-71=146) and Chris Carlin (76-70=146) finished T15th at two-over par, while Victor Billskoog (+6) finished T40 with a 150 (74-76=150) two-round score. Guillermo Pumarol (+7) finished T44 (76-75=151) to round out the Buccaneer team scores.
 
Clayton State’s Will Wilcox (-8) is the tournament individual leader after two rounds with a two-round eight-under score of 136 (71-65).
 
The tournament will conclude with a 7:30 am shotgun start on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
