Women's Soccer Falls To Rival Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 4-1 decision to rival Lynn at the McCusker Sports Complex on Tuesday in Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer action.

 

After a scoreless first period, where both teams managed just two shots each, the wheels came off for the Bucs early in the second period.

 

Kristina Garcia scored after dribbling through the Buccaneer (5-7-0, 1-4-0 SSC) defense off a pass from Raisa Kanji just 0:47seconds into the second period.

 

Sarah Mendelsburg added a pair of the goals in the 71^st and 78^th minutes to make it 3-0 Lynn (7-6-0, 2-3-0 SSC).

 

Maya Ozery trimmed the lead to 3-1 with a 25-yard free kick after Damarys Mendez was fouled by Alyssa Rijavec just outside the Knights’ penalty area in the 84^th minute.

 

But the Bucs missed clearing the ball out of their defensive third just three minutes later and Brittany Evernden scooped up the ball and ripped a shot past Sami Cromartie in the Buccaneer goal for the final margin.

 

Jennifer Shropshire made four saves in her first start of the season for the Knights while Cromartie tallied three saves for the Bucs.  The Knights out shot Barry 10-6 in the contest and managed seven corner kicks to the Bucs’ one.

 

Barry is back at home on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 pm, hosting the Florida Tech Panthers.
