Women's Soccer Shut Out

Women's Soccer Shut Out
Sophomore Steph Day gave it her all to prevent the Panthers from scoring.
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University women’s soccer team (5-8-0, 1-5-0 SSC) lost their third consecutive conference match in a 1-0 defeat by the Florida Tech Panthers (7-4-1, 2-3-1 SSC) on Friday evening at Buccaneer Field.

Florida Tech’s freshman Amanda Hjalmarsson scored her fourth goal of the season against the Bucs at the 4:33 minute mark. Hjalmarsson took the ball up the middle and shot on goal which was just too high for Barry’s keeper, Kelly Tryson.

The remainder of the game remained fair as both teams had equal possession of the ball. However, in the 79th minute, junior Elanna Brandy took a corner kick for the Bucs. Cheers arose from the Buccaneers on the field as they believed the ball had crossed over the goal line, but to the Bucs’ dismay, the referee thought differently.

The Panthers’ keeper, Melissa Pyles, recorded her seventh win while Tryson (3-4) took the shut out.

The Buccaneers will play again at home on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14, at 5 pm against Flagler College.
