TAMPA, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers (5-9-1, 0-6-1 SSC) dropped a 2-1 Sunshine State Conference match to the Tampa Spartans (9-5-0, 5-2-0 SSC) at Pepin Stadium on Saturday.

Tampa’s Ricardo Cardoso scored 1:35 into the game on a center pass from Heyden Ayure. Ayure made it 2-0 in the 39th minute off a corner kick from Pascal Milien.

In the second half, the Bucs’ defense stiffened and held the Spartans scoreless the rest of the way.

In the 69th minute, Emmanuel Miranda made a great overlapping run and was taken down in the box. Henry Apaloo converted the penalty kick to trim the lead in half, but that was as close as the Bucs would get.

Devala Gorrick made seven saves for the Bucs, while Ryan Thompson had five for the Spartans.

The Buccaneers close out the season on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:00 pm against the Saint Leo Lions at Buccaneer Field.
