Men's Golf Finishes Tied for 5th Rollins Invite

Final Round
OCOEE, Fla. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished tied for fifth out of a 15-team field at the Rollins College Invitational on Tuesday with a three-round score of 879 (+15) on the 7,038 yard, par 72 Forest Lake Golf Course.
 
Brevard CC (+6) won team medalist honors with a three-round score of 870. Nova Southeastern (289-290-294=873) and Valdosta State (293-287-293=873) both finished tied for second at nine-over-par, while Florida Southern (+11) finished fourth. Barry carded rounds of 290, 291 and 298 to finish with a three-round score of 879 and tied for fifth with Columbus State (+15) to round out the top five.
 
Entering the final round at two-under-par, Barry’s Matt Jonah fired a final round four-over-par 76, but still led the Buccaneer team with a three-round score of 218 (+2) and tied for 13th out of 81 individuals. Victor Billskoog finished just one stroke back (+3) in 18th-place, while Carlos Velez (+4) carded a three-round 220 score to finish T19. Chris Carlin (+6) finished T27, while Michael Rafalowicz (+15) rounded out the top five T60.
 
Valdosta State’s Jason Flowers (-8) finished as the tournament individual medalist with a three-round score of 208.
 
The Buccaneers conclude the fall portion of their schedule, but will return to action in the spring at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. Feb. 11-12.
 
First & Second Rounds
OCOEE, Fla. – The field continued to get tougher for the Barry University men’s golf team after finishing the first two rounds of the Rollins Invitational in sixth place out of 15 teams on the 7,038 yard, par 72 Forest Lake golf course on Monday. The Buccaneers finished the first day with a two-round score of 581 (+5) and are six strokes off tournament leaders Brevard CC and 14th-ranked Florida Southern.
 
Both Brevard CC (-1) and Florida Southern (-1) fired opening round scores of 575 to pace the field, while Nova Southeastern (+3) finished the first day in third place with a 579 two-round score. Lynn (283-297=580) and Valdosta State (293-287=580) finished the first day at five-over-par and tied for fourth place to round out the top five.  
 
Matt Jonah and Carlos Velez, both of whom were in the starting five that led Barry to the 2007 NCAA Division II title, paced the Buccaneer efforts. Jonah (-2) fired two one-under-par 71 rounds for a two-round score of 142 and finished T7 out of 81 individuals. Velez (E) finished T14 with a two-round score of 144. Victor Billskoog (+2) finished tied for 14th after an even-par 72 in the second round, while Chris Carlin finished with a five-over-par score of 149 and T35. Seeing his first action of 2007, Michael Rafalowicz finished T61 with a two-round score of 154 to round out the Buccaneer team score.
 
Valdosta State’s Jason Flowers (-8) carded an opening round one-under-par 71, but reared back to fire a tournament low 65 in the second to finish on top of the individual leader board with a two-round score of 136.
 
The final round will conclude with tee offs beginning at 9:15 on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
