MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (11-16, 3-8 SSC) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Eckerd Tritons (21-8, 7-5 SSC) on Tuesday night at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers fell by game scores of 24-30, 30-22, 30-27 and 30-27.

After being tied 3-3 in game one, the Buccaneers captured the lead and maintained control to a 30-24 win. But after the intermission, the Tritons came back and hit a .389 clip in the second set and a blazing .395 team percentage in the third to win 30-22 and 30-27.

With a two-game advantage, Eckerd jumped out to a 13-8 lead in game four. The Bucs chipped away at the deficit until gaining the lead 17-16. But after a timeout by Triton coach Courtney Draper, Eckerd scored the next two points to regain the lead and held on to win the set 30-27.

After sitting out the Bucs’ last 12 matches, Spenser Rigg’s return to the lineup provided the Bucs with a defensive edge, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the Tritons. She collected 10 digs in the match along with Maria Romanowski and Julie Priester. Lauren Evans contributed a team-high 23 digs to become the first player in school history with over 500 digs in a single-season.

Stefanie Sveiven posted a career-best 18 kills and hit a blistering .455 clip to pace the Buccaneer efforts. Camilla Pagnan and Caitlin Shawver added 14 kills apiece, while Romanowski handed out 54 assists.

Marin Gibson led the Tritons with 16 kills and 12 digs, while Angel White and Leigh Badoyen followed with 15 and 14 kills respectively. Shannon Ruby dished out 51 assists, while Kristy Busse posted a match-high 26 digs.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 2 in Melbourne, Fla. taking on Florida Tech in SSC play.
