LAKELAND, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (11-18, 3-10 SSC) fell to the 11th-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins (23-7, 10-4 SSC) by a 3-1 score on Saturday afternoon at Jenkins Field House. The Buccaneers fell by game scores of 30-25, 30-26 and 30-21.
 
Even without NCAA Division II kill leader Camilla Pagnan, the Buccaneers gave the 11th-ranked Mocs all they could handle in the first two games. The Buccaneers jumped out to an early lead and held on until Florida Southern took a 13-12 advantage. The Bucs managed to come back and tie the set 16-16, but were unable to hold on down the stretch falling 30-25.
 
After a 13-13 tie in the second game, the Moccasins went on a 12-3 run to take a 25-16 lead. Despite dropping the set 30-26, the Buccaneers outscored Florida Southern in the final 15 points 10-5.  The Mocs dominated the final set outscoring the Bucs 30-21 to win the match.
 
Throughout the match, Florida Southern was much more efficient offensively hitting a .339 team percentage for the match to the Bucs .161 team percentage. However, Barry managed to out block the Moccasins 5 to 3.
 
Caitlin Shawver led the Buccaneers with 11 kills, while Lauren Evans added 12 digs. Maria Romanowski dished out 28 assists for the Bucs.
 
Ashley Martin and Danielle Higginbotham paced Florida Southern with 11 kills apiece, while Beverly Stasis recorded the match’s only double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Daryl Baby collected a match-high 15 digs.
 
The Buccaneers will return to action on Sunday taking on the Rollins College Tars in SSC action in Winter Park, Fla. The 2 pm match will conclude a four-match conference slate for the Bucs this week.
