MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In the “Battle of the Buccaneers”, the Barry University men’s basketball team (1-4) fell to the visiting 21st-ranked Christian Brothers 72-53 at the Health & Sports Center on Friday afternoon.
Karega Tucker and Bryan Chiverton scored a combined 24 points out of Barry’s 53. Tucker scored a team-high 13, while Chiverton contributed 11 points off the bench.
After being down 40-26 at the break, Barry managed to hold CBU’s (3-1) three-point attack to just three-of-eight attempts in the second period and outscored Christian Brothers 33-26 in the loss. Barry’s charge in the final minutes of the game was led by Tucker’s seven points, while Gabe Lazo scored six of his eight points in the second half.
Kevin Weybright scored a game-high 20 points for Christian Brothers. He was followed by teammates Justin Ray and Brandon Shane who score 12 points apiece, while Nich Kohs hit the double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
In the first half, CBU converted 13 of 19 three-point attempts and shot a blazing 68.4 percent from behind the arch to finish the game with a 59.3 three-point field goal percentage. Barry only converted two of nine attempts from three-point range, but finished the game strong with a 43.8 field goal percentage in the second half.
The Buccaneers will be back in action hosting Puerto Rico-Cayey at the Health & Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 pm.
