MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s basketball team (10-2, 1-0 SSC) fell to the Bentley College (8-4) Falcons, 63-58, in the final round of the Barry Holiday Classic tournament at the Health and Sports Center on Saturday evening.
 
The Bucs led 42-35 when a Vanessa Lux layup at the 11:19 mark started a 21-9 run over the next seven minutes that put the Falcons up 56-51. Kim Brennen's three-pointer with 6:44 put the Falcons up for goodand Ashley Bruton's layup at 2:12 gave Bentley its biggest lead at 60-54.
 
The Bucs managed a brief run to close the gap to two points (60-58) on baskets by Amanda Mageean and Princess Bailey, but the Falcons connected on three offour free throws in the final 0:26 seconds to make the final margin. Thegame was the first time all season the Bucs were out-scored in the second half.
 
The first half was a see-saw affair. The Bucs went up 18-9 at 14:24 on a jumper by Mageean, but the Falcons responded with a 17-0 run to put them up 26-18 when Dedra Pritchard hit a baseline jumper with 6:12 remaining. The Bucs then closed the period outscoring the falcons 17-4 to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room. Bailey led the Bucs in the first half with 11 points with no help from the bench.
 
Bailey led the Bucs with 20 points and seven rebounds, followed by Kia Palmer’s 12 points and four rebounds. The Falcons’ were led by Kristy McLean’s 14 points and Lux’ nine rebounds.
 
Barry will open up 2008 on the road against Eckerd College on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2:00 p.m.
