MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University men’s basketball team (6-9, 0-3 SSC) continued to struggle in Sunshine State Conference play with a 68-65 overtime loss to the Lynn Fighting Knights on Wednesday night at the Health & Sports Center.
The Buccaneers went on a 7-2 run to open the second period for their largest lead of the game, 41-28. Leading by 11 with 8:55 to go in regulation, Lynn (8-5, 2-1 SSC) mounted a comeback and outscored Barry 19-8 down the stretch to tie the game at 60-60 to send the contest into overtime.
In the overtime period, Lynn’s Hans Schur scored four of the Knights eight points to give the Knights the 68-65 win.
Three Buccaneers scored in double-figures led by Karega Tucker’s 15 points. Willie Whitfield followed with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Gabe Lazo contributed 10 points off the bench in just 16 minutes of play.
Lynn’s Schur and Ed Millard combined for 44 points and 24 rebounds. Both posted double-double performances led by Schur’s 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Millard added 21 points and 14 boards.
The Knights opened the game with a 14-6 lead, but freshman Chris Uz drained a three-pointer at the 12:39 mark that sparked a 10-5 run to tie the game at 19. Barry finally took a 23-22 lead with 3:31 to play before the intermission and led 30-26 at the break.
The Buccaneers will be back in action hosting Florida Southern at the Health & Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4 pm.
