TAMPA, Fla. – The Barry University women’s basketball team (11-5, 2-3 SSC) fell short of a Sunshine State Conference victory 46-41 against host Tampa (12-3, 5-1 SSC) on Saturday.
The Buccaneers trimmed a 40-29 deficit with 5:56 remaining to three points on a three-pointer by Lucy Martinez with 0:40 seconds left to play, but UT's Angela Guiu hit both ends of a two-shot foul to take the win for the Spartans.
The Bucs headed into the second half down by just one, 20-19, and roared out of the break to take a four-point lead behind strong shooting by junior Martinez. Martinez, limited to three points in the first half, broke out with 14 points in the second.
Martinez finished the contest with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior Princess Bailey also tallied a double digit performance with 10 points.

Tampa was led by seniors Alexa Kane with 13 points, and Sheena Walton and Erica Woodard with 10 points each.
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, January 23rd when they play host to Rollins in a SSC match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
