MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Buccaneers (13-5) improved to 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play with a 51-46 home victory against Saint Leo (8-10, 1-6 SSC).
The Lions fought their way back from a 15 point half-time deficit by opening up the second half with a 13-2 run. With 9:19 remaining in regulation, Saint Leo’s Whitley Washington landed a three-pointer that tied up the contest 38-38, however the Buccaneers quickly responded behind two free throws by Junior Kristy Singletary in the following possession and a three-pointer by freshman Alexandra Henri.
With the score 49-46, sophomore Kia Palmer put the game out of reach for the Lions with a layup with only: 09 remaining in the contest.
Junior Princess Bailey and Palmer registered double-digit performances, tallying 16 and 11 points respectively. Palmer also led the squad with three blocked shots.
Saint Leo was led by Nichole Tyler with 15 points. Melissa Guerero and Dominique Daniels contributed eight points each.
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel up to Davie to take on the Nova Southeastern Sharks in SSC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
