Men's Basketball Stopped Short by Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, FL. – Junior Karega Tucker’s 23-point performance proved not to be enough as Florida Tech (15-4, 5-4 SSC) pulled away with 69-64 victory over the visiting Buccaneers (6-15, 0-9 SSC).
 
Sophomore Chad Bishop netted 13-points in the first half included a buzzer beater as Barry trailed by only one, 29-30 heading into half-time. Tucker added seven points as the Bucs shot 38.7% from the field.
 
In the second half, the Buccaneers put the pressure on however the Panthers were able to hold off a determined Barry squad.  With less than a minute remaining, junior Bryan Astigarraga converted on a free-throw attempt to put the Bucs within three. On the following possession, Tech’s Ryan Ballard drew a foul with :12 remaining and successfully made both shots which put the game away.
 
Astigarraga paced the offense, dishing out eight assists on the night. Willie Whitfield added eight points and five rebounds.
 
Justin Sedlak recorded a game-high 28 points for the Panthers as Carl McNally (14 pts), Ryan Ballard (13 pts), Jodriguel Kelley (12) as tallied double-digit points.
 
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Wednesday, February 6th as they play host to Eckerd in SSC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
