ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Barry University men’s tennis team (2-0, 2-0 SSC) picked up another 9-0 Sunshine State Conference win on Sunday defeating the Eckerd Tritons (0-1, 0-1 SSC) at the Bullard Tennis Center.
Barry’s 43rd-ranked singles player Andrew Sharnov played the top singles flight and defeated Eckerd’s top player Ben Maxwell 6-2, 6-4 to help pace the Buccaneers to their second straight 9-0 win in SSC play. No. 3 Manuel Lauter and No. 4 Cristoph Gayer both posted 6-1, 6-0 wins over Eckerd’s Alex McDonald and Colton Jacobs respectively, while Jakub Fejfar won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles over Hisashi Sato. Marcello D’Armas won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while David Barragan rounded out the Bucs singles matches at the bottom flight with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
In doubles action, Fejar and Emmanuel Fraitzl teamed up at the doubles top flight for an 8-1 win over Sato and Maxwell, while Barragan and Gayer followed with an 8-1 win of their own at the bottom flight over James Walker and William Holt-Weeks. Barry’s 23rd-ranked doubles tandem Lauter and Sharnov secured a sweep in doubles with an 8-5 win over McDonalds and Jacobs.
The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 3 pm in West Palm Beach, Fla. against Palm Beach Atlantic.
