MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University Men’s Basketball team (8-18) won their second consecutive game with a 75-70 victory over visiting Flagler College (20-6) at the Health & Sports Center. The victory marked the first for the Buccaneers against the Saints who still lead all-time 3-1.
Freshman Willie Whitfield recorded a double-double on the night with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Sophomore Chad Bishop netted a game high 19 points. Junior Karega Tucker posted 14 points and senior Gabe Lazo added 12 including four assists.
Flagler jumped out to a 15 point lead 32-18 in the first half before the Buccaneers rallied in the second-half to tie up the score 43-43 behind a Whitfield jumper with 13:20 remaining. Over the remainder of the contest the Bucs built a commanding lead of their own to put the Saints away. Lazo was fouled while converting a layup and made the following free-throw for the three point play which allowed the Bucs to go up by ten, 66-56.
The Saints were paced by Jon Matthews with a team high 18 points while Brandon Johnson contributed 17 points.
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday when they host Palm Beach Atlantic at 7:30 pm at the Health & Sports Center.
