MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers used a stifling defense to defeat the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 45-42 in the Health & Sports Center Wednesday night and run their win streak to three games.
The Bucs (9-17) held the Sailfish (4-22) to just 31.9 percent shooting, and just 20.0 percent from three-point range. The Bucs held PBA without a field goal over the last 4:36 to seal the win.
Willie Whitfield recorded his second straight double-double with team highs 16 points and 11 rebounds and Chad Bishop added 15 points, including a key three-pointer with 4:14 remaining in the game that proved to be the game-winner. David Powell led PBA with 13 points and Manny Lopez added 10.
The Sailfish went into the halftime down by just one when Fitzroy Anthony stole the ball from Karega Tucker and drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the score 22-21 in favor of the Bucs. Whitfield nearly had a double-double at the break with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Barry travels to Saint Leo on Saturday, Feb. 23 to play the Lions at 4:00 pm as they head down the stretch in the Sunshine State Conference.
