WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry men’s tennis team stumbled against the third-ranked West Florida Argonauts 5-4 at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex in Winter Park, Fla., on Sunday.
The Bucs (7-2) grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles. Ales Svigelj and Patrick Rittenauer defeated Eduardo Cavasotti and Carlos Zamora 8-5 at number one. West Florida’s Nicolas Barrientos and Patrick Batman evened thematch at number two with an 8-5 win over Emmanuel Fraitzl and Jakub Fejfar. At number three, Barry’s Andrew Sharnov and Roman Werschel defeated Luiz Bernardi and Jose Ycaza 9-7.
But the Argonauts (5-1) took four of the six singles, winning at the top two and bottom two flights. Cavasotti defeated Svigelj 7-6 (1), 6-1 at number one and Barrientos made it 3-2 UWF with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Werschel at number two.
Ritteanuer showed strong at number three with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bernardi and Fraitzl put the Bucs back on top with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Zamora at number four.
But UWF’s Batman beat Fejfar 6-4, 6-3 at number six and Ycaza clinched the match with a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over Sharnov at number five.
The Bucs return to Miami Shores, Fla., to face the Georgetown Hoyas on Monday.
