MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Carlos Gomez singled home Andrew Frezza in the ninth inning to lead Barry University over Embry-Riddle 6-5 in baseball action Saturday night at Feinbloom Field.

The Eagles (13-8) took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning and with one out, Nick Shaw singled off Chris Maloney. After a ground out moved Shaw to second, Aaron Varnum (1-2) came on to relieve Maloney. He walked Frezza and John Servidio singled off Varnum’s glove to load the bases. With a 2-2 count, Varnum came inside to Joel Keefe and hit the Bucs’ designated hitter in the knee to score Shaw from third and tie the game. Gomez then delivered his base hit for the game-winner for the Bucs (15-7)

The Eagles grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning off Barry starter Aaron Main. With two on and two out, Colin Gray doubled into the right centerfield gap for an early lead.

The Bucs came back in the bottom of the inning. Shaw walked and Frezza singled to center. Servidio then launched his team-leading eighth homer over the wall in centerfield and Barry led 3-2.

In the fourth, Brandon Roper-Hubbert match Servidio with a three-run homer to right center and a 5-3 Eagle lead.

Chris Leon scored on a wild pitch by Spencer Seabourne in the sixth inning to trim the lead to 5-4.

Varnum took the loss for the Eagles. He faced four batters in the ninth without recording an out, allowing a walk, hit batsman and two singles as he blew the save. Bobby Hernandez (1-0) gave up a single to Roper-Hubbert, who went three-for-three, then retired the next three batters, two by strikeout, in the top of the ninth to earn the win in his first appearance of the year.

Servidio led Bucs at the plate, going three-for-five with three RBI. Shaw was two-for-three with two walks and scored twice, as did Frezza. In addition to Roper-Hubbert, Eric Odgen was four-for-four for the Eagles who out-hit the Bucs 11-8.

The Bucs travel to Boca Raton, Fla., next weekend for a Sunshine State Conference series against the Lynn Knights.
