BOCA RATON, Fla. – After 21 hours, the first game of the series between Barry University (16-8, 3-2 SSC) and Lynn University (18-8, 4-1 SSC) was completed with the Buccaneers coming out on top 16-4. The win snapped Lynn’s nine-game winning streak. The Fighting Knights were able to bounce back in the seven inning game of the scheduled doubleheader, 11-1.

On Friday evening with the Buccaneers at the plate in the top of the fifth, the first game of the three-game set was washed out with the Bucs having runners at the corners and Carlos Gomez at the dish. After quite possibly the longest at-bat in Barry history, Gomez singled down the left field line, driving in Andrew Frezza to ignite a four run fourth.

In the eighth, The Buccaneer offense railed off five more runs with Gomez and Mitch Rodriguez hitting back-to-back homeruns.

Offensively, every hitter in the Barry line-up recorded a base hit. Joel Keefe had a monster outing going three-for-four with four RBI. Rodriguez went three-for-five at the plate and drove in two runs. Frezza was nearly perfect, going three-for-four with 2 RBI as well. Gomez added three RBI with two base hits. Collectively, the Bucs racked off 20 hits.

Offense was not the only asset which was working on all cylinders for the Buccaneers as Mike Tomoleoni (2-1) and Andrew Koubek (2-0) combined shut down the Fighting Knights. On the Friday evening part of the contest, Koubek tossed four innings, scattering four hits, giving up two runs while striking out four. In the Saturday portion, Tomoleoni came in to pitch five innings, striking out five while giving up five hits and two runs. Tomoleoni earned the win for Barry.

The Buccaneers could not keep the momentum going in the seven-inning match, falling 11-1.

The Bucs were held at bay by Craig Sheets (3-3) who tossed a complete game giving up seven hits while striking out 10.

Aaron Main (3-2) took the loss going two, allowing eight hits with five runs.

The Buccaneers will look to take the rubber game on Sunday at 1:00 pm in Boca Raton. The full nine inning game of the doubleheader will be played.
