Baseball Surge Falls Short Against Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Despite a late game rally, the Barry University Baseball team (16-9, 3-3 SSC) was edged by Lynn University (19-8, 5-1 SSC) 8-6 in the final game of their three-game series.
Down 8-5 in the top of the ninth, the Buccaneers were able to score two runs on a two-run homerun by John Servidio. Following his at bat, Joel Keefe hustled out an infield single and Carlos Gomez kept the rally alive with another single. The rally ended just short unfortunately as Mitch Rodriguez struck out and Chris Leon hit into a game ending fielder’s choice.
The Buccaneers jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead through the first two innings. In the first, Andrew Frezza reached first with a shot through the right side with two outs. Servidio then reached with a single to the opposite side to put two runners on for Keefe. Keefe responded with an RBI single, driving in Frezza. Servidio scored the second run as Rodriguez drew a bases loaded walk.
Evan Ashley scored the third run in the second, after doubling to left center field with two outs as well. Frezza was credited with the RBI on a single to right field.
Brian Milanes (2-3) cruised before giving up three runs in the third inning and another in the bottom half of the fourth which gave the Fighting Knights the 4-3 lead. Milanes pitched six innings, giving up six hits and five earned runs despite striking out eight.
Daniel Rouah (4-0) countered Milanes and earned the win for Lynn. Roauh went six innings, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs and struck out four. Ryan Additon picked up the save pitching the bottom half of the ninth allowing one hit and striking out one to close out the game.
The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday, March 18th when they play host to Southern Connecticut State at Feinbloom Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
