Buccaneers finish second and third in two varsity 8 races at the Canal 54 Governor's Cup
FELLSMERE, Fla. – The Barry University women’s rowing team posted solid results at the Canal 54 Governor’s Cup hosted by the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday morning.

In two women’s varsity eight races, the Buccaneers finished second and third respectively. Racing against NCAA Division I Columbia and host Florida Tech, the Buccaneers finished second out of three boats with a time of 7:15.

However, after coming off a solid first race, the Buccaneers struggled in their final race and finished third out of three with a time of 7:37. Columbia’s varsity team finished first, while Dowling came in second.

“Overall, we had a productive day of racing,” head hoach Dave Sanderson said. “Anytime you can line up against other crews on the course, you are going to learn something and I think we did that today.”

Sanderson added, “We rowed a good race in the morning, but we struggled a bit in the afternoon. However, we managed to take away some positive things from these races. We still have a few things to work on, but we are optimistic and are looking forward to the second half of the season while we continually improve during practice.”
