MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers split a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader with the #15 Florida Tech Panthers at Seminick/Hall Field on Saturday, dropping game one 6-1, but bouncing back to take the nightcap 7-3 in eight innings.
 
The Bucs (23-10, 5-4 SSC) broke open a 2-2 game in the eighth inning of the rubber game with five runs. Carlos Gomez hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Andrew Frezza. Mitch Rodriguez added an RBI single to score John Servidio and Brett Rossi brought in Rodriguez and Joel Keefe. Crhis Leon scored the final run on an error.
 
The Bucs got on the board first in the second inning. Servidio singled and scored on a flay ball by Gomez.
 
The Panthers (25-11-1, 9-6 SSC) tied the game in the third inning on an RBI single by Tyler Wright.
 
The Bucs took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Gomez singled and stole second and scored on abase hit by Manny Pedrozo.
 
In the sixth, it was the Panthers turn to even things up. Wright led off with a double and Mitch Saum delivered the RBI base hit.
 
Brian Milanes (3-3) worked 2.2 innings in relief of Bobby Hernandez to earn the win for the Bucs. He allowed one run on five hits and a walk and struck out three. Brett Backman (3-3) took the loss for the Panthers. He allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk in 1.2 innings.
 
In the opening game, the Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning and went on to the 6-1 win.
 
Mike Piazza (3-1) earned the win for Tech. He worked seven innings, allowing arun on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Mike Tomoleoni (2-2) took the loss for the Bucs. He gave up four runs on seven hits and four walks in 3.1 innings, with three strikeouts.
 
Servidio had four hits, scored twice and drove in one for the Bucs in the two games. Ashley had three hits.
 
The Bucs host the Eckerd Tritons on Friday, Saturday, Apr. 4-5 at Feinbloom Field.
