Women's Tennis Falls To #2 Pirates

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The second ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates beat the 10th-ranked Barry Buccaneers 8-1 in women’s action at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Wednesday.
 
Ildiko Csordas pulled a three-set upset of #6 Joanna Dahlback at number one singles, 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 after the match was decided for the only point for the Bucs (16-5).
 
The Pirates (22-1) swept the doubles with relative ease. Fifth-ranked Iuliia Stupak and Gabriella Kovacs defeated Csordas and Caroline Stevens 8-4, while Dahlback and Sofia Haggstrom matched that score over Berit Peterson and Olivia Lilien at number three. At number two, 10th-ranked pair Alida Muller-Wehlau and Martina Beckmann beat Angie Werschel and Helen Wisneiwski 8-2.
 
In singles, 11th-ranked Muller-Wehlau beat #23 Stevens 6-3, 6-2 at number two, while #22 Kovacs handled #36 Werschel 6-3, 6-3 at number three. At four, Beckmann survived a first set loss to Wisniewski for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. Haggstrom beat Peterson 7-5, 6 -0 at number five, while #37 Kagukina made it 8-1 with a 7-6 (7), 6-1 win over Lilien at six.
 
The Bucs travel to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, Apr. 17-20 in Tampa, Fla., then wait word on an NCAA Regional bid.
