Men's Golf Finishes Tied for 3rd at SSC Tourney

Final Round
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished tied for third out of a nine-team field at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, hosting by Florida Tech on Tuesday afternoon. The Buccaneers carded a three-round score of 889 (289-293-307) on the 7,057 yard, par-72 Duran Golf Course.
 
Heading into the final round, the Florida Southern Moccasins (+15) were in second place, but fired the lowest final round score of 302 to claim the SSC Championship by seven strokes over the field. The Moccasins shot 281 in the opening round and came back with rounds of 296 and 302 to finish with a three-day score of 879 to claim the title.
 
Lynn (+22) finished seven strokes out of the lead with a three-round total of 886 to finish second, while both Barry (+25) and Nova Southeastern (+25) finished tied for third respectively. Host Florida Tech (+31) rounded out the top five with a three-round score of 895.
 
Barry’s Victor Billskoog (+4) earned a spot on the SSC All-Tournament team finishing with a three-round score of 220 (73-72-75) and T5 out of 44 individuals. Barry’s first-day leader Chris Carlin (+6) dropped two strokes and finished T7. Carlos Velez (+9) finished T9, while Preston Roberts (+17) finished T27. Sebastian Pinzon (+24) rounded out the Buccaneer individuals T37.
 
At the end of tournament play, Nova Southeastern’s Greg O’Mahony, Lynn’s Jordan Holley and Florida Southern’s Judson Eustaquio were all tied and were forced into a two-hole playoff. All three shot par on the par-five ninth hole, but O’Mahony birdied the par-four tenth to claim individual medalist honors. All three were named to the SSC All-Tournament Team including Florida Tech’s David D’Agostino, Florida Southern’s Brian Richey, and Barry’s Billskoog.
 
The Buccaneers wrap up their regular season tournament schedule and now wait for a possible bid into the NCAA South/South Central Super Regional to be played at the Golf Club at Circle C in Austin, Texas May 5-7.
Rounds 1 & 2
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a two-round score of 586 (289-293) on the 7,057 yard, par-72 Duran Golf Course. With one round to play, the Buccaneers are currently fourth out of the nine-team field
 
The first two rounds proved to be a close race with three teams finishing tied for first to start the tourney. Lynn (+1), Florida Southern (+1) and Nova Southeastern (+1) all finished the first day with one-over-par 577 team scores. Barry (+6) is currently fourth, while host Florida Tech (+15) rounded out the top five.
 
Barry’s Chris Carlin (-1) was the only Buccaneer to finish under par with a two-round score of 143 and T5 out of 45 individuals. Victor Billskoog (+1) finished one-over-par with a two-round 145 score and T7, while Carlos Velez (+2) finished T9 with a score of 146. Preston Roberts (+4) and Sebastian Pinzon (+22) finished T15 and 44th respectively to rounded out the Buccaneer individual competitors.
 
Nova Southeastern’s Greg O’Mahoney (-6) finished the first day as the individual leader with the lowest opening two rounds. He fired a four-under-par 68 score in the opening round and followed with a two-under-par 70 in the second to lead the field of individuals by two strokes.
 
The final round of the SSC Tournament will begin on Tuesday morning, Apr. 15 with an 8 am shotgun start.
