MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University Baseball (29-15, 9-9 SSC) was swept by Florida Southern (25-20, 13-7 SSC) 8-4, 6-5 in a doubleheader at Feinbloom Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers were one out away from preventing the three- game sweep to the Mocs when a costly error allowed Florida Southern to slither to a 6-5 victory in the rubber game. Aaron Main (7-4) was the hard luck loser, pitching seven solid innings giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out two.
Heading into the top of the seventh, the Bucs held a 5-3 advantage. Andrew Frezza notched two RBI while John Servidio and Carlos Gomez added one apiece to lead Barry. Left fielder Evan Ashley was three-for-four at the plate.
Ryan Koch (3-1) earned the win for Florida Southern and Daniel Tillman picked up his third save of the season.
In game one, Brian Milanes (4-4) took the mound for the Buccaneers and held the Mocs scoreless over three innings before yielding the first run of the game in the top of the fourth. In the sixth, Florida Southern jumped on Milanes and scored four runs on four hits. Milanes finished the game giving up seven hits in 6 2/3 innings of work and four runs while striking out two.
Frezza was the offensive leader in game one as well with a two RBI performance. Servidio added another RBI.
Jeremy Thorn (2-5) earned the win for Florida Southern in relief.
The Buccaneers look to rebound as they travel to St. Thomas on Tuesday evening to take on the Bobcats. Game time is scheduled for 6pm.
