Softball Opens Up NCAA D-II South Regional In Grand Style

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Host #1 Barry University (41-6) defeated Albany State (33-21) 8-0 (6) in the fourth game of the NCAA Division II Softball South Regional Tournament.
The Buccaneers busted out four runs in the bottom of the third and added another three in the fourth and capping the night on a game ending Megan Young (5) home run to advance in the tournament.
Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year, Amber Jack (27-2) dominated the Rams line-up allowing on three hits in the victory. She struck out five.
Once the Barry line up figured out opposing pitcher, Mindy Mager (18-12) they were able to jump out to a huge lead. In the bottom of the third, the Bucs tagged Mager for four runs off of four hits. Cristina DeTagle doubled down the left field line to reach scoring position and advance Brittany Anderson to third. On the following at-bat, Ashley Likens reached first on an error by shortstop Bynum Ta’Shelya which allowed Anderson to score the first run of the game.
Mager took the loss allowing eight runs, six earned off of 12 hits. She struck out two.
Young finished the night going a perfect three-for-three at plate with three RBI, including the game clinching home run. Likens added two RBI with a hit while, Shyla Rider added another RBI with two hits and a run for the Buccaneers.
Barry advances to meet #4 Rollins in the winners’ bracket on Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 pm at Buccaneer Field. Albany State will face #4 University of Tampa in the 1:30 pm game.
