MARROW, GA.— The Barry University men’s soccer team got its second win of the season on Saturday evening with a 2-1 victory over Clayton State. The Bucs went into halftime down a point to the Lakers, but scored when it counted in the second half.
The Lakers scored early at 13:46 in the game when Leighton Fredricks tipped it over Buccaneer goal keeper Devala Gorrick’s head. In fact, Clayton State controlled the ball for much of the first half. The second half belonged to the Bucs though.
Barry’s first goal came eight minutes into the second half when Pedro Petris (on a pass from Mark Kilpatrick) quickly delivered the ball to Mark Anderson ten yards from the goal. Anderson put the ball in uncontested.
The second half saw a lot of action as Clayton State racked up ten fouls, a two yellow cards, and a red card. The red card came when Leighton Fredricks slid, spikes up, into the leg of Mark Kilpatrick. In all, Clayton State was called on 22 fouls.
Barry scored again with nine minutes left in the game as the result of a Clayton State Foul. On the free kick, Mark Anderson crossed the ball into the middle of the field where Stephen Hume rose above every other player and headed the ball into the net. The Bucs defense held off a last minute offensive charge by the Lakers to win the game.
The Bucs return to action on Friday, Sept. 5 at 5:00 pm at Nova Southeastern against Lake Erie College.
