Men's Soccer Holds On For Win Over Mocs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s soccer team beat Florida Southern 3-2 on Saturday night at Buccaneer Field.

The Buccaneers (7-1-0, 1-1-0 SSC) scored first just 7:19 into the game when Vuk Kojic went one-on-one with the Mocs’ goalkeeper, Johan Jonsson. Rodrigo Mancenido passed the ball up the sideline and Kojic bent the ball around Jonsson for his fourth goal of the season.
 
Barry’s second goal came in the second period when Mark Anderson chipped a shot over Jonsson’s head from 15 yards out at 83:57. Anderson now has seven goals for the season and has scored one goal in seven straight games.
 
The Bucs scored one more time when Mark Anderson intercepted the ball as the Mocs attempted to clear it from the box. Anderson got the ball to Ryan Alexander who scored his first goal of the season from inside the box.
 
Florida Southern (1-6-0, 0-2-0 SSC) went on to score twice in two minutes to put the game at 3-2, but were unable to get the final push to tie the game.
 
Devala Gorrick had seven saves for the Bucs, and moves to 7-1-0 for the season.  Johan Jonsson faced 14 shots on goal in the loss. He goes to 1-6-0 for the season.
 
The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 30 against Palm Beach Atlantic at Buccaneer Field at 7:00 pm.
