Men's Golf Finish Tied For 7th At The Cougar

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Barry University men’s golf team finished in a tie for 7th out of the 17-team field at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday. The Buccaneers moved up 4 positions in the final round with a 288 team score, placing their two day total at 17 over par (297-288=585).

South Carolina-Aiken (292-277=569) fired a blistering 7 under par final round to win the team event by 3 shots over Florida Southern (289-283=572). First day leaders and tournament hosts Columbus State (284-290=574) fell back to third place after their 6 over par final round.

Barry’s Carlos Velez (74-72) and Victor Billskoog (77-69) both finished the tournament at 4 over par, and tied for 19th in the 90 player field. Meanwhile, Sophomores Sebastian Pinzon (79-71) and Guillermo Pumarol (74-76) each finished tied for 48th with their two day totals of 8 over par. Chris Carlin (72-80) struggled to find his game in the final round as he fell back into a tie for 58th.

Jude Eustaquio, of Florida Southern, complimented his first round 68 with a final round 67 to extend his lead and take the individual medalist honors by 3 shots.

The Buccaneers will continue their fall season at the Shark Invitational, October 12-14 in West Palm Beach.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Buccaneers are looking to improve on their disappointing first tournament at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at The Country Club of Columbus. Barry’s men finished the first day of competition in a tie for 11th place with regional rival, Valdosta State. After a 13 over par, 297, the Bucs are 13 shots back of first day leader, and tournament host Columbus State.
 
Sophomore Christopher Carlin leads the Buccaneers after the first round of play firing a 1 over par, 72. Carlin is currently in a tie for 17th going into the second and final round. Meanwhile, Carlos Velez and Guillermo Pumarol each shot +3, 74s which is good for a tie for 37th. Victor Billskoog and Sebastian Pinzon round out the Bucs’ first day scores, firing 77 and 79 respectfully. Jude Eustaquio, of Florida Southern, leads the field of 89 players after navigating the 6515 yard course in 68 strokes, 3 under the card.   
 
The final round of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational will commence tomorrow. Live scoring is available on golfstat.com. The Bucs will look for some red numbers early as they try to make up some ground on the leaders.
