Werschel and Fejfar Take Doubles A Flight Back Draw

WINTER PARK, Fla.--Roman Werschel and Jakub Fejfar captured the back draw of the A Flight Doubles at the CL Varner Memorial Invitational on Sunday.
 
The Bucs knocked off Florida Gulf Coast's Brad Henderson and Danny Lee 8-2 in the semifinals. Facing Palm Beach Atlantic's pair of Lukas Bolano and Krasimir Atanasov in the finals, they prevailed 8-5.
 
In the A Flight main draw, Emanuel Fraitzl and Andrew Sharnov fell to Rollins' Neil Clausen and Pablo Seijo 8-5 in the final. They reached the final with an 8-4 win over Cesare Gallo and Njal Stene of Stetson in the semifinals.
 
Fraitzl defaulted in the back draw of the A Flight singles to Florida Gulf Coasts' Edson Lee due to a conflict with the doubles final.
 
Fraitzl and Sharnov reach A Flight Semifinals
 
WINTER PARK, Fla.—Emanuel Fraitzl and Andrew Sharnov advanced to the semifinals of the men’s doubles A Flight at the CL Varner Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Fraitzl and Sharnov, the fourth seed, defeated Rollins’ Adrian Tan and Jeff Morris 8-2. They will now face Cesare Gallo and Njal Stene of Stetson in the semifinals on Sunday.

Fraitzl also advanced to the finals of the A Flight Back Draw. He beat Florida Southern’s Guenther Fercher 7-6 (3), 7-5, Florida Gulf Coast’s Edson Lima 8-4 and Armstrong Atlantic’s Paul Fitzgerald 8-4. He will face FGCU’s Danny Lee in the finals on Sunday.

In the B Flight Doubles, Marcello D’Armas and David Barrigan advanced to the semifinals with an 8-5 win over FGCU’s Steve Binninger and Frank Acierno. They will face Central Florida’s duo Tarek Ben Soltane and Joe Deliaks in one semifinal on Sunday.

D’Armas fell in the quarterfinals of the B Flight, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Blaze Swartz of UCF. In the A Flight quarters, both Roman Werschel and Sharnov dropped out. Werschel fell 6-1, 6-4 to Morris of Rollins, while Sharnov lost to third seed Filip Kricka of Stetson 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The tournament concludes on Sunday.
Sharnov and Werschel Advance to Quarters In CL Varner
 
WINTER PARK, Fla.—At the CL Varner Memorial Invitational, Barry University’s Andrew Sharnov and Roman Werschel both advanced to the quarterfinals of the A Flight.
 
Werschel defeated Florida Southern’s Ben Taylor 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the first round. Facing sixth-seeded Cesare Gallo of Stetson in the second round, he gutted out a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 three-set win to advance to the quarters. He will now face Rollins’ Jeff Morris on Saturday.
 
Sharnov won two matches against NCAA Division I opponents. In the opening round, he defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Ervin Garibovic in three sets, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3. He knocked off fifth seed Tarek Ben Soltane of Central Florida 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the quarters. He will now face third-seeded Filip Kricka of Stetson on Saturday.
 
Jakub Fejfar defeated seventh-seed Roman Schirmaier of Florida Southern 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in round one, but fell to Rollins’ Adrian Tan 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in round two. Eighth-seeded Emanuel Fraitzl fell in the first round to Central Florida’s Marc Rocafort 6-3, 6-1.
 
In the B Flight, Marcello D’Armas advanced to the quarters. He beat Flagler’s Jordan Johnson 7-6 (5), 6-0 in round one, then took down Florida Gulf Coast’s Frank Acierno 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. He will face Central Florida’s Blaze Swartz on Saturday.
 
David Barrigan won his first match in the B Flight 7-6 (5), 6-3 over Rollins’ Jonathan Emmet, but fell in round two to Stetson’s Gokay Celik 6-3, 6-0.
 
In the A Flight Doubles, fourth-seeded Fraitzl and Sharnov defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Garibovic and Edson Lima 8-3 to advance to the second round. They will now face Rollins’ Morris and Tan on Saturday.  Werschel and Fejfar dropped their first round match 8-2 to the third seed from Stetson Kricka and Marksim Levanovich.
 
The tournament continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
