MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry volleyball team improved to 9-5, 2-4 SSC after beating the Puerto Rico-Rio Pierdas Gallitas (5-6) 3-1 on Wednesday night in the Helath and Sports Center.
Barry took set one, led offensively by Camilla Pagnan who had six kills. The Bucs stormed out to a five point lead at 9-4. The Gallitas stayed within four through the entire game, but did themselves in with ten total mistakes, helping the Bucs win 25-22.
The Buccaneers destroyed the Gallitas 25-14 in set two. Pagnan led the offensive with four kills while four Buccaneers got involved on defensive. Meisje-Sable Burton, Libby Walters, Danielle Bishop, and Romina Powers combined for six blocks.
The Gallitas came out with vengeance in set three, winning 20-25 off the hitting of Marrero Figueroa.
The Buccaneers again shattered P.R.R.P in set four. The Bucs stormed out to an 11-3 lead with the help of five Gallitas mistakes. The Bucs continued to add up the points with seven Buccaneers getting kills. Romina powers led all hitters in set four with five kills.
For the Gallitas, Figueroa, Gonzalez Rosa, and Lajara Velez combined for 31 kills and Ubinas Aparicio had 22 assists. For the Buccaneers, Pagnan led all hitters with 18 kills while Libby Walter had 33 assists.
The Buccaneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 17 against Flagler at 7:00 pm in the Health and Sports Center.
