MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s volleyball team beat the Flagler Saints (15-11) 3-1 for the second time this season on Friday night at the Health and Sports Center.
Though Barry (10-5, 2-4 SSC) won set one 25-23, the Saints gave the Bucs some problems combining for nine kills. It wasn’t enough to disrupt the Bucs who were led offensively by Camilla Pagnan, who had seven kills, and Samara Ferreira who had five.
Set two saw the Bucs jump out to an early 3-0 lead off a Pagnan kill and two Saint errors. Flagler stayed close through 6-4, but the Bucs ran away at this point getting to 16-10 with the help of four kills by Pagnan and one apiece by Ferreira, Libby Walter, and Meisje-Sable Burton. The Saints rallied back, but the Bucs ended it with a Ferreira kill to win 25-21.
In the third set, Flagler took their first lead of the match at 2-0 off a Danielle Bishop error and a kill by Justine Burkhardt. However, the Bucs demolished the Saints from here on out. Barry got out to leads of 14-7 and 20-10 before ending it with the help of four kills by Pagnan and two Saint mistakes. Barry won set three 25-15.
For Flagler, Justine Burkhardt has 12 kills and Rebecca Royal had 10 assists. Pagnan led the offensive for the Bucs with 23 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Ferreira and Burton combined for 14 kills while Walters had 38 assists. Lauren Evans led the Buccaneer defense with 17 digs.
The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, Oct 18 at 4:00 pm against Saint Leo in the Health and Sports and Center.
