Men's Golf Closes Fall Eighth at Rollins Invitational

OCOEE, Fla.--The Barry men's golf team moved up three places to eighth on the last round of the Rollins College Invitational at Forrest Lake Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Bucs shot 294 (+6) on the last round to leave them at 880 (+16) for the tournament and eighth in the 16 team field.

Led by individual medalist J.P. van der Walt’s 12-under-par 204, the Columbus State Cougars took the team title at 862 (283-284-295) -2. Lynn (871) came in second, while Florida Southern was third (875). Nova Southeastern and Brevard CC tied for fourth at 878.

Chris Carlin continued to lead the Bucs, finishing tied for sixth at one-under 215 (71-71-73). Carols Velez also finished in the top 10, tied for ninth at one-over-par 217 (70-75-72). Sebastian Pinzon tied for 37th out of 86 golfers at 224 (77-74-73). Guillermo Pumerol (78-74-76—228) and Matt Jonah (74-75-80—229) finished tied for 59th and tied for 65th respectively.

The Buccaneers conclude the fall portion of their schedule, but will return to action in the spring at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. Feb. 16-17.
Men’s Golf 11th at Rollins Invitational After First Day
 
OCOEE, Fla. – The Barry University men’s golf team is currently in 11th place out of the 15 team field at the Rollins Invitational held at Forrest Lake Golf Club. The Bucs fired 292 (+4) and 294 (+6) in the first two rounds and are 19 shots back of tournament leader Columbus State (283-284= -9), but are only 6 shots out of the fifth place.
 
Chris Carlin (71-71) is tied for 6th after day one and leads the Buccaneer squad firing a two-under 142 for the first two rounds. Carlos Velez (70-75) is three shots back of Carlin and is currently tied for 19th after his one-over 145. Senior, Matthew Jonah fired rounds of 74 and 75 and is currently in a tie for 47th going into the final round. Meanwhile, sophomores Guillermo Pumarol and Sebastian Pinzon round out the Buccaneers’ scores after the first two rounds, shooting 151 (+7) and 152 (+8) respectively.
 
JP Van Der Walt of Columbus State fired rounds of 69-68 and sits atop the individual leaderboard at nine under the card going into the final round.
 
The Rollins Invitational will be concluded with the final on Tuesday morning, starting tee times will commence at 9:15 am.
