BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team lost in straight sets, 3-0, to the Lynn University Fighting knights on Tuesday night.
The first match stayed close throughout much of the game. The Knights (19-11, 6-5 SSC) and Bucs (11-9, 3-8 SSC) were even through 9-9 before the Bucs went up 14-11 with the help of four Buccaneer kills and two attack errors by the Knights. After a timeout, the Knights took seven of the next nine points to go up 19-14. The Knights finished off set one with five kills, winning 25-21.
Set two was even closer than set one, with the Bucs losing 25-23. The Bucs and Knights were even through 8-8 before Lynn took a small lead at 15-13. The Buccaneers fought back, tying it at 17-17, by winning four of the next six points off of a Lauren Evans ace and three Knight errors. The knights took a small lead before the Bucs again tied it at 20-20. The Knights finally finished off the set with the help of four kills.
Set three belonged to the Knights. Though the game was tied at 8-8 again, Lynn got out to a small lead of 16-13 before winning nine of the next 11 points to win 25-15.
The Buccaneer hitters combined for 33 kills. Libby Walters and Julie Priester combined for 27 assists while Camilla Pagnan led the defense with 11 digs.
The buccaneers return to action on Friday, Oct 31 against Tampa at the Health and Sports Center at 7:00 pm.
