ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell to the Eckerd Tritons 2-0 at the Turley Athletic Complex Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer tournament.
After a scoreless first half, the Tritons (11-7-0) struck in the 49th minute. Will thacker lifted a corner kick to the far side of the area and Jimmy Lawler went up with a strong header to Joe Ilett at the top of the six-yard box. Ilett, unmarked, ripped the shot past Barry keeper Devela Gorrick for the 1-0 lead.
In the 70th minute, the Tritons struck again. Greg Cavallini’s cross to the far post found Anthony Arico and his header found the back of the net.
Gorrick had three saves for the Bucs and Ryan Alexander also swept a ball off the line. Dominic Spedaliere had three saves for the Tritons.
The Tritons advance to the semifinals to face the top-seeded Lynn Knights, while the Buccaneers end their season 11-6-1.
