MIAMI SHORES, Fla--The Barry University men’s basketball team held on to defeat St. Thomas University, 69-63, Wednesday night in exhibition action at the Health and Sports Center.

Following a tight first half that saw STU carry a one-point lead into the break, Barry turned a tied game into an eight-point following a layup by Erick Nsangou with six minutes left in the game.

The Bucs wouldn’t relinquish the lead, despite a pair of tough three-pointers made by STU’s Antonio Jones that helped bring the Bobcats to within two twice down the stretch.

Nsangou, who led the Bucs with 18 points, helped seal the win in the final minute from the free throw line, as he went 3-for-4 to preserve the six-point win.

The game remained tight throughout the first half, with the Bobcats building a lead of six, while the teams tallied seven ties in the first frame.

Chad Bishop helped keep the Bucs close throughout the first half, as he scored 10 points in only nine minutes of action.

Barry took advantage of 13 second chance points, while St. Thomas only tallied four.

Willie Whitfield dominated the glass for the Bucs, pulling in 10 with four coming on the offensive end.
Karega Tucker and Bishop each scored 16 points apiece to help lead the offensive charge for Barry.

Barry will return to action next Wednesday when they host Florida Memorial to open the regular season beginning at 7 p.m.
