WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Barry University men’s basketball team lost a tough game, 73-69, in double overtime to Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday night.
In the first half, the Sailfish (5-3) got out to a small lead of 12-7 before Barry (2-1) scored eight unanswered points capped off by an Erick Nsangou tip in to go up 12-15. The Bucs held the lead through the remainder of the first half, but allowed PBA to get close at 19-20. Yet the Bucs finished off the first period strong with two three-pointers by Zack Trapp and a vicious dunk by Willie Whiteifld to go into the break with a 25-29 lead.
The Bucs owned the first part of the second half, pushing their lead to 32-42 with the help of Chad Bishop who scored seven in the first four minutes, including a three-pointer. The Bucs retained the lead until 8:44 left in the second when Manny Lopez tied it at 46-46.
Heading into the final minute, the Bucs held a 52-54 lead until Chris Joseph hit a jumper to tie it at 54-54 with 0:38 seconds left, and send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Bucs and Sailfish were back and forth until PBA took a 62-60 lead with 1:17 left. A missed jumper by PBA gave the Bucs the ball with 0:12 seconds left. A three pointer by Bishop was no good, but the Bucs stole the rebound, and Chris Uz hit a 22-footer with 0:02 seconds left to tie it at 62-62, and force a second overtime.
PBA took a 66-64 lead with 2:46 left, and never looked back as they held on for the victory, 73-69.
Chad Bishop scored 17 points and pulled down seven boards for the Bucs. Nsangou earned a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.
The Buccaneers return to action on Friday, Dec 5 at 4 pm against West Alabama in Valdosta, GA.
