MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University women’s basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, beating Saint Leo 64-54 in the Health and Sports Center.
The Buccaneers (7-1, 1-0 SSC) took an early lead in the first half, going up 11-5 with 10:28 left in the period. Alisha Sanford led the way for the Bucs, scoring the team’s first nine points of the game off three field goals and three foul shots.
The Buccaneers went on a 17-10 run to go up 28-15 with 3:32 left in the half. Barry would close out the half with a 32-21 lead. Kristy Singletary led the way for the Bucs in the first half scoring 10.
The Buccaneers owned much the first part of the second half as Kristy Singletary hit two three-pointers within 40 seconds to help the Bucs to a 40-29 lead.
The Lions (6-1, 0-1 SSC) would go on a 15-8 run to get within four with 8:33 left, but wouldn’t get any closer, as the Bucs went three for five from the floor to take the win, 65-54.
For the Buccaneers, Alisha Sanford earned a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Mariesa Greene also had double figures with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kristy Singletary added 16 points including four of six three-pointers. Lauren Lee led three Lions in double figures with 13 points.
The Buccaneers return to action on Thursday, Dec. 11 at St. Thomas at 7 pm.
