MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Christian Brothers hit 11 three-pointers and held off a furious rally by Barry to win the annual men’s basketball “Battle of the Bucs” at Canale Arena on Saturday.
CBU rolled out to a 22-point lead in the first half as they hit seven for 15 from three-point range, with five different players connecting from long range. Christian Brothers carried a 42-24 lead into the break.
In the second half, Barry whittled the lead down to 10 points at the 12:12 mark on a layup by Jamaal Madyun, but CBU pushed the lead back to 16 on a three-pointer from Kyle Couvion with 10:35 left to play.
At the 2:46 mark, Erick Nsangou drove in for a layup to cut the lead under 10 for the first time since the 7:47 mark of the first half. Barry got as close as five points, on a three-point play by Karega Tucker with 1:16 remaining, but Christian Brothers hit 10-for-18 from the line in the final 1:39 to hold on for the win.
Tucker led Barry with 19 points, while Nsangou chipped in 14. Nick Kohs led CBU with 20 points, while Reggie Peyton had 15 and Colin Flynn added 13.
Barry will play Ouachita Baptist at 2:00 pm on Sunday at Canale Arena before returning to South Florida.
