MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team opened their home slate with a dominating 16-3 victory over Nova Southeastern Thursday at Feinbloom Field.

Barry (1-1) took advantage of two errors to tally four unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning, as Manny Pedrozo delivered an RBI single and then Yas Gutierrez finished off the big inning singling home a pair on a shot to left field.

NSU (0-1) cut into the lead in the top of the fourth, as the Sharks delivered two RBI singles to make it a 4-2 contest.

The Bucs wouldn’t wait long to get back to work on the offensive end.

Yudelmis Hernandez led off the bottom of the fourth with a double and later came around on a triple by Danny Lima. Yan Gomes followed with an RBI single to help give Barry their four run advantage back.

Barry continued the offensive carousel in the seventh, as nine Bucs came to the plate, tallying five runs in all.
Hernandez once again came through with the big hit in the frame, ripping a shot to deep left-center, clearing the bases, as he tallied four RBI on the night to lead the way.

With all the offense, Charley Short shut down the Sharks on the mound, going six innings and giving up just two earned runs to record the victory.

Joel Keefe also had a solid night at the plate for Barry, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and three runs scored.
Barry will be back in action on Tuesday Feb. 10 on the road at St. Thomas beginning at 6 p.m.
