LAKELAND, Fla. – The Barry University women’s basketball team couldn’t quite comeback on the road Saturday night, as they lost to Florida Southern, 54-44, in Sunshine State Conference play.

Barry (14-8, 5-6 SSC) started well, opening up an early three-point lead after a layup by Princess Bailey at the 16:42 mark.

Florida Southern (15-6, 6-5 SSC) turned the game around five minutes later on a three-pointer by Megan Dzikas.
The Mocs expanded the lead to double-digits near the end of the half, as free throws by Ali Fogle and Chelsea Johnson gave FSC a 13-point halftime lead.

The Bucs began to make a dent in the lead with seven minutes left to play, as Bailey cashed in a free throw, then Mariesa Greene completed a three point play to cut the lead to six at the 7:24 mark.

That would be as close as Barry would get, as the Mocs continued to attack, as Johnson put together a quick five-point burst to expand the lead out to 11.

Both teams struggled from the floor, with FSC shooting a shade over 32 percent, while Barry shot just under 30 percent.

Greene was the lone Buccaneer to reach double-digits, as she tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Bailey added eight points and four rebounds.

The Mocs had three players tally double-digit scoring, as Emer Foley led the way with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds. Johnson chipped in 14 and Dzikas added 10.

Barry will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 14 when they will host Tampa at the Health and Sports Center beginning at 2 p.m.
