Newberry, S.C.—The Barry baseball team ended a perfect weekend in South Carolina with a 4-2 win over Belmont Abbey on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers struck early, scoring in the first inning when Yan Gomes singled to right field to bring in Danny Lima.

The Crusaders (6-6) tied it up in the third when Justin Vasquez singled to right field and Spencer Sobol crossed the plate.

The Bucs (6-1) regained the lead for good in the fourth when Joel Keefe singled in Gomes.  Minutes later Yudelmis Hernandez drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in Keefe from third to give Barry a 3-1 lead.

Danny Brion hit a pinch-hit solo homer for the Crusaders in the fourth inning to get them close at 3-2.

But in the ninth inning Yas Guiterrez blasted a double to left field, reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Hernandez, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Manny Pedrozo. The Bucs took a 4-2 lead and held off the Crusaders in the bottom of the ninth to take the victory.

Brad McAllister got the victory, moving to 2-0 on the season. He tossed five innings, allowing two runs. He scattered nine hits and struck out three. Brian Milanes pitched the ninth inning, getting Roland Rodriguez to line into a double play for the final out, earning his first save.
