TAMPA, Fla.— The Barry University women’s tennis team had little difficulty in a 9-0 shellacking of the Tampa Spartans (0-5) on Friday afternoon.
In doubles competition, Caroline Wendling and Lamie Contreras played together for the first time this season, beating Kourtney Stark and Megan Mancini 8-1 in the number one spot. Playing together in the two spot, Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina beat Emily Kennedy and Claire Runge by the same score. In number three doubles, Berit Peterson and Mei-Jing Ang beat Ally Wooten and Lindsey Garyn 8-3.
The Bucs (4-1) swept all the singles matches as well, starting with Werschel beating Alexandra Arnold 6-1, 6-3. Werschel remains undefeated for the season.
Wendling defeated Stark 6-0, 6-0 in number two singles and Kashelkina beat Runge 6-3, 6-1 in number three singles to give the Buccaneers the victory.
Contreras and Julie Cadet won their matches in number four and five singles, beating Kennedy and Brianna Ryan, respectively.
The Buccaneers are on the road the remainder of the weekend, playing at Florida Southern on Saturday, and Florida Tech on Sunday.
