Softball Goes 1-1 on Day Two At Charger Chillout

DECATUR, Ala.—Barry’s softball team split another pair of games at the UAH Charger Chillout on Saturday. The Bucs (6-3) defeated Bellarmine 3-1, but fell to the host Chargers 5-4.

In the opening game, Grace Collins singled in Sara Hipson and Amber Durkin scored on a error by the Kinights (2-4) shortstop in the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit.

Durkin scored an insurance run in the seventh when she reached on a bunt single and came around on a error by Bellarmine pitcher Casey Willard (1-3).

Brianna Smith picked up the win with 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and Amber Jack tossed the final 1.2 innings for her first save of the season. Willard took the complete-game loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Bucs tallied a season-high four runs on nine hits, but the big bats of UAH (4-0) accounted for five runs, all on homers.

Jack (4-2) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk, while striking out eight. Alex Lewis (1-0) earned the win for the 22nd-ranked Chargers with 3.2 innings in relief. She gave up a run on five hits, but struck out five.

Grace Collins had two hits and drove in two, while Natalie Heeley had a pair of doubles.

The Bucs face North Georgia and Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
